The first games of the PHASAC season were played Saturday Feb. 5, 2005 at the Christian Outreach Gym in Statesville , NC . And WHAT a start!!!

 

A stirring and emotional talk by a member of Covenant House was first on the day's agenda. Keep focused on the road ahead was the subject. Then Daryl Macintyre, director of Covenant House, told his story. God truly works in mysterious way his wonders to perform.

 

Winston-Salem took on challenger Lexington next. Lexington started strong and went ahead 23 – 19 at the half. And built a 36 – 29 lead after 3 quarters. Winston-Salem then upped the defense holding Lexington to just 4 points in the fourth quarter while scoring 11 and sending the game into overtime. In the first overtime the teams traded baskets and sent the game into double overtime. Wilbert Johnson took over the scoring for HAWS and Winston-Salem prevailed by a final score of 52 – 49 in double overtime. Wilbert Johnson scored 16 points to lead HAWS while Joshua Clemont added 10. Ron O'Kelly poured in 19 for Lexington .

 

In the second game, Greensboro and Statesville traded basket for basket throughout the entire game. Statesville was up 17 – 12 in the first quarter and 26 – 22 at the half. Greensboro adjusted at the half holding Statesville to 8 3 rd quarter points while scoring 18 taking a 40 – 34 lead. Statesville made a run in the fourth but could not make the free throws and finally lost 48 – 45. Dominique Deal scored 18 points for Greensboro and Dominique Wilkens chipped in 8.

Jamar Howard outscored everyone with 21 points while Marco Daye contributed 11 for Statesville .
