Community Policing is coordinated with the Statesville Police Department.   This program is funded through the Public Housing Drug Elimination Program Grant.  SHA was awarded the PHDEP on the basis of our submittal of anticipated programs we plan to administer throughout the communities for youth and adults.   SHA has 4 full time Police Officers on duty daily.  We also support a Community Watch Program to interact and assist the Police Officers.  SHA, along with SPD, support a Community Police Center located in one of the housing communities.

Oaktree Health Center is open Monday thru Friday with some night clinics held monthly.  Rhea Lamb, R.N. is the Program Coordinator through Iredell Memorial Hospital.  The center supports services for men, women, and children.

Teen Health is geared for young ladies of middle school age.  Teen Health is held every Monday and Wednesday evening at our Parkwood Village and Dobson Community Centers.  One of the programs that fall under Teen Health is the RAP Program (Responsible Attitudes Program).  RAP program works to build self-esteem, responsibility for actions, and attitudes.  Workshops are given on juvenile crime, self-defense, alcohol, drugs, emotional and physical stress, and peer pressure.  The students are required to work on community projects that are agreed upon within the group.

Our Dobson Community Center is set up as a Youth Center.   SHA also has a Youth Council consisting of youth who live in SHA communities.   Any youth age 11-18 may join the council.  Council Officers are elected from among the members.  Youth Council members work with the youth of the communities and meet on a monthly basis.  Youth Council members also conduct fund raisers to raise money for youth activities and field trips.

The Sports Initiative Program consists of Basketball, Cheerleaders, Golf, and Tennis.  Programs are set up for ages 6-17.  The tennis & golf programs are coordinated with the Statesville Recreation and Parks Department.

An After School Tutorial Program is scheduled Monday thru Friday's for students in grades K-5 in each of the Statesville Housing Authority Community Centers.  This program has teachers and teachers aides from the Iredell-Statesville School System who supervise homework.  This program is coordinated with the Statesville Recreation and Parks Department.  If you would like to know more information about the program, please follow this link.

The Statesville Housing Authority also has a Scholarship Program.   Annual Scholarships are awarded to graduating seniors who reside in Public Housing or Leased Housing (Section 8).  Applications are available in April of the year and SHA Scholarship Committee conducts interviews with qualified applicants.

Assessments for our elderly residents are done on a monthly basis to assure independent living status.  If needed, Resident Services will help with acquiring health care for in home services.

The Council on Aging provides noon meals each weekday for congregate and home bound meals for our Elderly Nutrition Program.  Congregate meals are served at our Summit Village Community Center.

We also have a variety of daily, weekly, and monthly activities.   These include crafts, bingo, 50& Alive group, bible study, diabetic club, and others.
