The Family Self Sufficiency Program is designed to assist low income families in becoming self sufficient and independent of all welfare and/or government assistance.
We are aware that some families need guidance and support to empower themselves to become independent and productive members of the community. With this in mind, our FSS Coordinator will help you to set and accomplish your goals by supplying you with the tools and opportunities that are necessary for completion.
Several options are available to our FSS participants to assist in completing their objectives. These include, but are not limited to, counseling, coaching, and one-on-one contact with the FSS Coordinator and other community service providers.
The family head of the household will commit to a five-year contract working toward goals they set for themselves and their household. An incentive for participating in the FSS program is an escrow account that is set up when the family signs up for the FSS program. This escrow is based on their earned income and monthly rent, and will be given to the family when their goals have been successfully completed.
This escrow can be used to purchase a home if they choose to participate in our Home Ownership Program. Our Home Ownership counselor will be happy to guide the family through a step by step process of how to purchase a home of their own.
The FSS Program has been very successful here at Statesville Housing Authority. If you are interested in becoming self-sufficient and are having difficulty reaching your personal ambitions, please give our FSS Coordinator a call. Sandra will be more than happy to provide you with information and assist you in reaching your goals.
